NAS CONCERT REVIEW
Saturday
March 16, 2002
House of Blues, Myrtle Beach, SC
The crowd chanted, "ESCO, ESCO, ESCO"
and got their money’s worth, as Hip Hop recording artist Nas
rocked the House of Blues in Myrtle Beach, SC. No background
dancers, synchronized dance moves, special effects, costume changes
or intermission. Just song after song enticing increasingly louder
shouts and chants.
Nas performance was a medley of his
greatest hits past and present. In aerobic fashion, the crowd jump,
waved their hands, and pumped their fist, and rocked their heads as
Nas orchestrated his way through his act without a break. Pacing
back and forth on stage as comfortable as in his living room, the
crowd acted like an organized group of voyeurs trying to get a
glance at the self-proclaimed "King" who has influenced
all rappers that have come after him.
The crowd was hyped from start to finish,
singing along to many of the songs. For example, in a call and
response segment during the track "K-I-SS-I-N-G," Nas
shouted "picture us married- girl you and me" and
the crowd responded "K-I-SS-I-N-G". They also went
nuts during "Hate Me Now," as their heads bounced
uncontrollably to the beat.
QB’s Finest got into the act with
"Rewind" and of course "Oochie Wally." Nas did
not disappoint performing other songs from his new album ending the
concert most appropriately with "One Mic".
If you are a true hip hop fan and ever once
dreamed that Nas fell off, you need to wake up, go to the concert in
your area, and apologize. Nas performance was off the hot meat rack
and gets my Full Blaze rating.
