Law & Disorder...
A grand jury indicted Gerald Levert on assault
charges and a charge of obstructing official business stemming from a
confrontation with police on Feb 25th. Police said Levert
and a passenger in his car, James Austin, intervened
when police stopped a friend of Levert's for
speeding. The grand jury indicted Austin on the same
charges as Levert and a charge of assault on a police
officer. Levert will be arraigned on Mar.
22nd. Ja Rule pleaded guilty to assault
and fined $1,200 by a Canadian court for punching someone in a Toronto
club last year. Ja said he was provoked by a crowd
that had formed near him at the nightclub, shouting
"derogatory" comments about his public feud with 50
Cent. Ja also apologized to the city of
Toronto. Bill Cosby was hit with a federal
lawsuit from the woman who accused him of drugging and groping her.
The lawsuit accuses Cosby of battery, assault,
invasion of privacy, defamation and infliction of emotional distress.
Ruben Studdard is suing his godfather and former
advisor, Ronald Edwards, for allegedly misusing almost a
quarter of a million dollars the year he worked for the singer.
Janet Jackson is seeking a restraining order against a New
York man that she claims has been "harassing and stalking"
her for nine years, according to court documents obtained by Celebrity
Justice. A hearing is set for Mar. 17th.
A Chicago judge denied an attempt by R. Kellys
attorneys to have Illinois child pornography statute declared
unconstitutional. Kellys lawyers were challenging
the law in hopes that its removal would lead to a dismissal of Kellys
criminal indictment. While prosecutors contend the girl was indeed
under the age of 18, and Illinois law states that it is illegal to
take pictures of someone 17 or younger while engaging in sex, Kellys
team argued that the law should be unconstitutional because it is not
always illegal to have sex with a 17-year-old, and it is not illegal
to use a camera.
Oh Really...
Flex Alexander is being sued for sexual harassment by one
of the show's former stand-in's who filed anonymously as Jane
Doe. Celebrity Justice was on the set of
"One on One" in 2002 as Alexander
shot courtroom scenes with guest star Judge Joe Brown.
In her suit, Jane Doe alleges she met Alexander
at the Valencia Country Club. When she learned she
would be losing her job as a server, Doe claims Alexander
agreed to help, getting her the gig on the "One on One"
set. But after working on the show for just one season, Jane
Doe claims she was terminated for her "refusal to engage
in a sexual relationship" with Alexander. During
her time on the set, Doe claims Alexander
"tried to kiss her," "criticized her boyfriend,"
"expressed his jealousy," and, the suit claims, "shared
inappropriate conversations" with her about his "porn
addiction." Jane Doe is also suing for wrongful
termination and wants damages in excess of $2 .25 million.
Incidentally, Jane Doe claims he began harassing her
just under two years ago. Alexander's reps did not
return our calls for comment. Kanye West told The
Post that when he accepted honors at Londell
MacMillan's annual Artist Empowerment Coalition
pre-Grammy brunch, he deadpanned for the crowd that artists should be
paid for the magazine covers that drive subscriptions and advertising
revenue. "This is my whole thing," West
explained. "I didn't say I should get paid,' I said 'We should
get paid.' That's putting words in my mouth. Also notice the word
'should.' That's not a demand or an ultimatum. The media needs to take
responsibility for quoting me correctly because I put a lot of thought
into what I say." 50 Cent and the Game
called off their public feud at a press conference in Harlem and
donated funds to the Harlem Boys Choir and the
Compton Unified School District Music Program, a gesture
heavy with symbolic East Coast-West Coast unity. 50
said in a statement, "I'm launching a new foundation, the
G-Unity Foundation, Inc., to help people overcome obstacles
and make a chance for the better in their lives...to help them
overcome their situations. I realized that if I'm going to be
effective at that, I have to overcome some of my own. Game
and I need to set an example in the community." The Daily
News reports Fat Joe will only record one
track aimed at 50 Cent in response to 'Piggybank',
which will be included on his new album. "One time, one time
only, and I'm gonna keep it moving," he said. "I don't care
if that dude makes 60,000 songs about my mother, my father, whatever.
I'm just going to keep it moving, because I know where this could end.
I've seen this movie before." 50 Cent spoke with
Blender about the affects from his nine bullet
wounds. 50 said the wound in his hip hurts the most.
"That's your major bone!" 50 explained.
"Going to the bathroom becomes a major chore, absolutely."
As for the bullet shard in his tongue, which is responsible for his
trademark mush-mouthed delivery, 50 revealed,
"Sometimes it tastes like I've got a lemon in my mouth. My taste
buds be buggin' out!"
The Daily News reports that at another bash for Jamie
Foxx, LisaRaye McCoy went after her former
friend, actress Stacy Arnell, say other actresses and
Arnell. At the party, LisaRaye
allegedly jabbed Arnell in the forehead, tried to
punch her in the jaw and ordered her to get out of the Foxx
fest. Arnell, who was in "Menace II
Society" and appeared on "Cold Case,"
told us: "I was sitting there with my friends, talking; she came
in, she [went after] me, and she told me to leave the club. As I was
leaving, she came over and proceeded to [go after] me again."
Guests buzzed about the cause of LisaRaye's fury, but
her rep, Jeanine Taylor, wouldn't confirm it. Neil
Sean of Sky News reports that Alicia
Keys has written a duet for Whitney Houston
with plans on getting Houston back on top of the
charts. "It's looking great as I have written a duet for her and
she loves it," Keys told an insider. "We
plan to get it down and onto the next album. I drew on her for
inspiration, she was the voice that made me want to become a musician
and I'm overjoyed that she loves the track."
