Brooklyn Bodega, Room Service, B.B. King’s and Verizon Wireless give back and drop the price of the 5th Annual Brooklyn Bodega/Room Service showcase to a penny.

Brooklyn Bodega and The Room Service Group, organizers of the 5th Annual CMJ Showcase, along with host BB King’s and sponsor Verizon Wireless announced today that in an effort to give back to the Hip-Hop community they will be dropping the cost of their October 31st showcase to one penny. Room Service Group president Wes Jackson had this to say about the price drop, “To be honest, in the midst of the VH1 Hip-Hop Honors celebrations we came to the realization that we need to do our part to keep Hip-Hop alive every day. And in the spirit of [Afrika] Bam [baattaa] and the Zulu Nation we felt that included breaking down the barriers of entry. These days the biggest barrier is financial. A $20 ticket is going to keep certain people out and that is not in our mission, and thanks to the sponsorship from Verizon and the cooperation of BB King’s we are going to let everybody in and rock like an old school jam from 101 Park in the Bronx.”

Over the past five years, the CMJ showcases have featured De La Soul, Talib Kweli, Little Brother, Rhymefest, and a host of others. This is the first time that a Brooklyn Bodega/Room Service CMJ showcase will be a free event. The event continues the Brooklyn Bodega mission of creating free, positive Hip-Hop events for all ages, genders, and races, the hallmark of which is the Annual Brooklyn Hip Hop Festival.

Boasting a lineup of old school and new school performers alike, organizers have also hinted that a big artist confirmation is set for later this week.

The 5th Annual Room Service and Brooklyn Bodega CMJ Showcase is taking place on October 31st at BB King’s in Times Square, New York City. This year’s showcase features Grammy winning producer and DJ Prince Paul and the Ill Out Crew from XM Satellite Radio’s “Prince Paul and The Ill Out Show” as heard on The Rhyme 65. Paul will be joined by a range of guests spanning his long career including Stetsasonic, Mr. Len, CL Smooth with Mixtape Award Winner J.Period, A.G., Freddie Foxxx, Dres of Black Sheep, the Juggaknots, Mojoe, Chen Lo and Nemiss.
