OBAMA GIRL VIDEO SWEEPS INTERNET
Rock Ridge Music To Release Song For Download
The masterminds behind the Saturday Night Live parody viral video and
song, “My Box In A Box,” are back again, under a new guise and a new
moniker. Barely Political Presents Obama Girl’s “I Got A Crush On
Obama” song with accompanying video has been making the rounds virally among emailers worldwide and quickly caught the attention of news
media outlets less than a day after it was posted last week. Rock Ridge
Music, who released the group’s other single recently, is rushing to
release “I Got A Crush On Obama” via the usual digital song portals
as soon as possible, with release likely to be in July. In addition to
the digital music, Rock Ridge will also be offering ringtones. “We waited to gauge the public reaction to the track,” says Rock Ridge President Jason Spiewak. “I certainly didn’t expect this type
of immediate attention, and have been working to make the song available for download almost as soon as it hit. Reaction has been huge.”
Barely Political Presents Obama Girl is the work of vocalist Leah
Kauffman, Ben Relles, and producer Rick Friedrich. The video, which depicts
a girl who has a huge crush on the presidential candidate, features actress Amber Lee Ettinger as Obama Girl. The day after the video was
posted, the phrase “Obama Girl” was unofficially the #1 most-Googled
phrase, and Ettinger’s name was unofficially #10 most-Googled. The video itself has logged over one million views on YouTube in less than a
week, and with the additional locations it can be viewed online, Barely
Political estimates that the video has been seen by as many as fifty million people already.
As the song and video took on a life of their own as early as last Thursday, press has been quick to report on the video phenomenon. Coverage
has already appeared on MSNBC, Fox, CNN, the BBC, the Howard Stern Show
on Sirius, ABC News, and additional stations and programs worldwide (Inside Edition has a segment scheduled for tonight). Even political
blogs (including one on the New York Times website) have taken notice and
written about the song. The group, who has no affiliation with Obama,
plans to release more in the next few weeks via the BarelyPolitical.com
website, including tributes to other candidates.
