Ma to Speak with Under-Privileged Teen Girls for the “Strength of My
Sisters” Foundation

Records’ Remy Ma will
speak with under-privileged teenage girls about her rough childhood
upbringing and overcoming the struggles black females face on a daily
basis. The panel will be held on Thursday,
July 27, 2006 from 6-8
p.m.
The
Strength of My Sisters
event was created to focus on providing Teenage Females with positive
role models, as well as examples of women who have survived hardships
and adversities in order to succeed in society. Each speaker will be
given an opportunity to talk about their lives, the challenges they
faced throughout childhood, and how they overcame them. This event
will provide inspiration and examples for teens to emulate so that
they too can succeed.
Below
are some startling facts to prepare you for this life-changing event:
- 90%
of young women involved in prostitution were sexually abused as
children.
- Young
Women now account for 24% of all juveniles in detention
facilities.
- African-American
young women compromise almost 50% of all young women in secure
detention, while Hispanics make up 13%.
- It
is estimated that 80% - 90% of young women in the criminal or
juvenile justice system have been physically or sexually abused.
- 90%
of all new HIV cases are African-American Females between the ages
of 13-25.
- HIV/AIDS
is one of the top four causes of death for African-American Women
- The
primary mode of HIV transmission among African-American Women was
heterosexual contact.
