HITMAN SAMMY SAM

Once you hear the deep bass in his voice, the infectious musical hooks, and his comical punch lines, it is no surprise that Hitman Sammy Sam is making a mark on the music scene. Hailing from Atlanta's Southside, the rapper is ushering his own personalized style of humorous hip-hop comedy into the national arena. He knows how to move an audience and keep them smiling, and with his latest solo effort, he does.

The new hit single, "Step Daddy" is blowing up airwaves throughout the south and is in heavy rotation in radio markets such as Dallas, Atlanta, and Charlotte. In the same vein of the timeless song "Double Dutch Bus," the rapper leads a chorus of children chanting the catchy call-and-response hook over a floating bass line.

Hitman Sammy Sam knows first hand the conflicts that occur when children no longer listen to their parents. "The whole song is the truth," he asserts through his deep southern drawl. "I have nieces and nephews that really say things like this." In fact, his ten year-old niece actually performed and wrote some of the catchy come-backs featured on the hit single.

Living with Atlanta's version of the ill-mannered child caricatures, "Bebe's Kids," made famous by Robin Harris, may not be easy, but Hitman Sammy Sam manages to make light of the situation through his comical sketches. "The song started out as a joke," he reveals about his inspiration for writing the song. "It really started to get big because everyone can relate to it." Screaming "You Ain't My Daddy" at the top of their lungs, the kids aim sharp rebuttals at Hitman Sammy Sam's deep assertive voice and witty lyrics, proving that sometimes children can get the better hand.

The album, Step Daddy, set for release on March 29th, shows Hitman Sammy Sam representing the south's hyper hip-hop flavor, known as "crunk" music. On the standout track, "It's Summertime" the rapper blends energetic lyrics with a slow-tempered r&b hook. "My Life," describes the realities of the Dirty South over deep pulsating rhythms. Showing his support of Atlanta's underground hip-hop scene, the album includes appearances by some up-and-coming local talent including, Ms. Flawless, Kizzy Rock, Nature Boy, and other Georgia natives. Ms. Flawless appears on the response song to "Step Daddy," a combative remix where she plays the lyrical role of the children's mother.

Hitman Sammy Sam is not new to the hip-hop game. With over seven albums under his belt, the rapper has been creating a buzz throughout the south since the late 80's. His last independent album, One Way End, released on Atlanta's Rocky Road Records, caught the attention of Universal Records, who signed him to a record deal in March of 2003.

The new album, Step Daddy, shows Hitman Sammy Sam taking a more light-hearted approach to his music by adding comical relief. "I just like to see people happy and dancing," he says regarding his adrenaline-rushed tracks. "This music is for everybody."
